At approximately 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, the Charlottesville Police Department received a call relating to shots fired on the 100 block of Harmon Street — which runs between Jefferson Park Avenue and Stadium Road. According to a community alert sent by Timothy Longo, chief of the University Police Department and vice president for security and safety, no injuries have been reported.

A Wednesday CPD release reported that officers found 41 shell casings at the scene, including those from a rifle and a pistol. CPD officials are currently following leads and they believe that the incident was targeted, with initial findings indicating that a single residence was fired at. A vehicle parked in the driveway outside this residence was also struck.

This is the first community alert of June.

Longo said that anybody who might have information pertinent to the case should contact the Charlottesville Police Department at (434) 970-3280.

Community alerts are shared via email to the University community when there is timely information about a threat that can be released to the community without compromising any ongoing investigations.
