Charlottesville Police responded to shots fired at 12:28 a.m. Saturday on the 800 block of West Main Street, according to a safety advisory email sent to the University community by Timothy Longo, chief of the University Police Department and associate vice president for safety and security. The location of the incident is approximately a 15-minute walk from central Grounds.
Longo said that police responded after hearing multiple shots in the area, but that no injuries or damage to property have been reported. No suspect description is available, according to the email, and police will maintain a heavy presence in the area.
Longo said anyone with information on this incident should contact Charlottesville Police at (434) 970-3280.
Safety advisories are delivered when certain crimes that pose a serious threat to the community occur at or near the University.
