Shots fired reported on 500 block of 12th Street NW

The Charlottesville Police Department responded to a report of shots fired on the 500 block of 12th Street Northwest at 6:50 p.m. Friday, according to a safety advisory email sent by Timothy Longo, chief of the University Police Department and associate vice president for safety and security. The location of the incident is approximately a 17 minute walk from central Grounds.

Longo said police responded after receiving a call, and recovered shell casings at the scene. No injuries have been reported at this time and no suspect description is available, according to the email.

Longo said anyone with information on this incident should contact Charlottesville Police at (434) 970-3280.

This is the second safety advisory of February, and the fifth safety alert or advisory of 2025. Safety advisories are delivered when certain crimes that pose a serious threat to the community occur at or near the University.
