The Cavaliers bounced back after the Feb. 14 loss at Richmond.

Virginia’s offense already showed extreme promise in its first two outings, where it averaged 15.5 goals through the help of the nation’s leading point scorer, junior attackman McCabe Millon, as well as sharpshooting senior attackmen Truitt Sunderland and Ryan Colsey. Saturday, a semi-new, highly anticipated name got in on the action — freshman attackman Brendan Millon.

Brendan netted five goals after scoring none in his first game and two in his second, powering the Cavaliers (2-1, 0-0 ACC) to a 19-7 victory over Stony Brook (0-3, 0-0 CAA). His two assists gave him a game-high seven points for the afternoon, a feat once thought difficult to achieve when sharing the field with his brother McCabe, who finished with six points himself.

Brendan, who had a five-assist performance in his collegiate debut, is starting to show that he can do it all on the offensive end and is validating the consensus No. 1 ranking he was given in his high school class. While his playstyle still differs from his brother’s, he ultimately provides Virginia with another ball handler who can dodge and create shots for himself and teammates — often McCabe. The Millon-to-Millon connection is becoming commonplace, as the brothers linked up for two goals Saturday.

Fellow freshman faceoff specialist Griff Meyer also had a day, scoring his first two career goals. Meyer beat the Seawolves on a season-high 65 percent of his faceoff attempts, taking two of them to the other end himself and tossing an assist to McCabe on another, giving him a three-point day.

Junior attackman Chase Band notched his first career multi-goal game with back-to-back goals in the second quarter, one assisted by Brendan and the other by McCabe. Additionally, sophomore attackman Sean Browne recorded his first-career goal in the fourth quarter. Browne, a highly touted recruit out of Dallas, Texas, who missed all of 2025 due to a season-ending surgery, gave a glimpse of the power generated by his 6-foot-5 frame on the missile he sent into the back of the net from 25 yards out.

It is evident that the roster is deep with talent for scoring the ball, and having two distributors in both Millon brothers is paying dividends for setting up scoring opportunities on a silver platter.

While the 19 goals scored matched the season-high for Virginia, holding the Seawolves to seven goals was also a season best. Senior goalie Kyle Morris got his first start in the net of the season, turning in a season-best eight saves and just six goals before being replaced late by graduate Jake Marek, who totaled two saves and allowed one goal.

The Cavaliers dominated the faceoff game and the groundball battle. It was a group effort, but Meyer led the way with seven groundballs, followed closely by junior midfielder Wills Burt with five. Virginia finished with a 41-24 groundball differential, its best margin of the season, reflecting a hallmark of Tiffany-led teams — Coach Tiffany has 10 consecutive years finishing in the top-four nationally in ground balls per game.

As for Coach Tiffany, he joins Jim Adams and Dom Starsia as the only coaches in program history to reach 100 wins. Coach Tiffany sits in third behind Adams and Starsia in total wins at Virginia, as he slowly approaches Adams, who totaled 137 in his legendary career.

The Cavaliers return home to face long-time rival No. 14 Johns Hopkins in the 20th Doyle Smith Cup on Saturday. Similar to Virginia, the Blue Jays have had no problem with their early-season mid-major opponents, though lost in blowout fashion to No. 5 North Carolina last week, setting up a marquee matchup between two ranked teams looking for a statement win.

Looking to avenge their one-goal loss from last year, the Cavaliers hope to carry over the momentum of their most complete performance on both sides of the ball to date. Faceoff is set for 3 p.m. on Saturday and can be streamed on ACCNX.
