My mom took a video of me getting into U.Va. It’s shot at a distance. Acceptances released Dec. 10. Two days prior, I began a 10-day stay in my basement, quarantining from a COVID-19 exposure. The Boston cold seeped into every inch of that cellar, but it failed to dampen my excitement — as the video attests.

With spring having officially started, it’s only proper to give the season its earned praise and “extra hour” in the spotlight. From posies and pollinators to dandelions and daylight, spring has a lot to brag about. Offering just enough temperature variability for you to hold off on hard launching your shorts attire, spring is a time of rejuvenation, which I'm sure we all definitely need, even after our recent break. But for as much as I love these aspects, I’m here to share the “best” things about the spring, focusing on those lovely qualities that drive most of us mad about the season.

Virginia was fighting to keep its season alive against California March 6. The Cavaliers trailed 24-13 after the first quarter and needed a heroic comeback. That slim hope however, was quickly quelled when one of Virginia’s stars, senior forward Latasha Lattimore, collapsed on the floor and was helped off the court.

This year, many of the student directors — in both theater-focused Contracted Independent Organizations and drama department productions — are women. And these directors are using their roles to reshape the way that gender roles and norms are depicted in their plays.

Assistant Professor of Music Dr. JoVia Armstrong has worn many hats throughout her life — performer, composer, producer, band leader. And in 2022, she added another as a professor, bringing her talents and experience to University classrooms. Armstrong encourages her students to think practically and creatively, teaching a range of topics from working within the music business to composing contemplative music, all while maintaining her career as an independent artist and performer.

The No. 5 Virginia men’s tennis team hit the road this weekend for a pair of ACC matchups. After splitting its matches last weekend, including a 4-2 win over then-No. 8 Stanford, Virginia climbed to No. 5 in the latest ITA rankings. They justified that ranking with a 4-3 win over Notre Dame and a 4-1 domination of Louisville.

Virginia ended this weekend’s Chattanooga Classic in a distant second place at 25-over par, nine strokes behind first-place Florida’s 16-over par. The No. 27 Gators ran away with it, but the No. 13 Cavaliers emerged from the rest of the pack, especially considering the comeback required to get there.
