By now, if you haven’t heard Adele’s new song, it’s safe to assume you live under a rock. If you are one of the few people at this school who hasn’t heard it, come over to my apartment any time of the day to hear me belting it at the top of my lungs, much to my roommates’ chagrin. While most people probably know the lyrics by heart, a lot of people don’t know what Adele’s song is really about. To me, it’s pretty clear that Adele is actually not singing about lost love, but about the distance between our college and high school selves. Don’t believe me? Read on.

U.Va. Halloween is a measure of strength, endurance, creativity and wit. To help you get ready for what is to come, especially if you are a first year and have never done this before, here are some tips on how to prepare. Clear eyes, full hearts, lots of water and protein and appropriate costumes can’t lose.

Who would you get lunch with if you could get lunch with anyone, living or dead? I was recently asked this question, and my mind immediately went to Oprah. Our lunch would be at her house in Hawaii, and we would harvest the food ourselves on her farm. While Oprah is clearly the right answer to this question, I wonder what the answer would look like if we limited the options to people who have been or currently are U.Va. students, staff or faculty.

There’s a very special place in my heart reserved for the Charlottesville farmers’ market — to the right of the spot for Christmas decorations and above the spot for eating Pringles five at a time. In all my years, I have yet to find something that better motivates me to get out of bed on a Saturday morning. Even a bacon alarm clock that wafts meat odor could not compare to knowing a bounty of local food and happy times awaits. Here are some of the reasons why the Charlottesville farmers’ market is, quite possibly, the greatest thing about U.Va.

In this highly interconnected society, with more and more communication moving to the Internet, we are becoming less concerned with how we are perceived in person and more concerned with how we are perceived online. We are constantly critiquing our social media selves. I’ve begun to notice friends asking for advice on their online profiles — “Would people get this caption?” or “Is this picture of my pancake from this morning Instagram-worthy?” — more than they are asking for advice about their physical presence.

Three long months have passed and finally school is starting up again. If you are like me — in denial that summer has truly ended — you waited until the last minute to face reality and come back to school. If you are more prepared, you came back early to settle in. For you, this past week hasn’t been a living nightmare full of nonstop errands and efforts to fill your room with more than empty snack wrappers.

I can’t be alone in thinking the University’s current roommate survey just doesn’t cut it. I, like many others, resorted to Facebook to meet my future roommate. This approach — which can aptly be described as a form of online dating — albeit successful for me, has its risks. In order to avoid some common problems, here are a few questions that should be added to the roommate survey.

Last week, after a long and exhausting day, my roommate and I settled down on the couch for a relaxing evening of TV. Finding the channel set to E! News and too lazy to change it, we prepared ourselves for the latest celebrity gossip.

Alderman can be a dismal place — a result of poor lighting and the fact that the library is where you go in your darkest hours. According to my estimate, Alderman is visited by only 10 percent of the student population on any normal day. But during exam week, this number rises to 95 percent, and the regulars get moody about it. To avoid any mini-wars with said regulars, here is an accurate and helpful guide to Alderman.

THE ATHLETE: Clad in all Nike everything, this person woke up at 5 a.m. and has already completed a workout harder than anything you’ve done since high school preseason. You adjust your pace, walking far enough behind him or her so it’s not creepy, but close enough to admire that calf definition.

In 2012, an innovative Clemson student created the National Tigers for Tigers Coalition. Students at schools with tiger mascots joined together across the country in a mission to save the tiger species. Students involved attend summits with tiger experts and advocates, raise awareness and educate the public in an effort to preserve their mascot.

I got in to Charlottesville after Winter Break around 2 p.m. and only had one errand to run that day. So, naturally, I didn’t get around to it until 9 p.m.

The University is going through a trying time — one that leaves us searching. Searching for solace, for meaning, for happiness, perhaps even for humor. Searching for the light, which we are certain is behind this gray cloud because we remember seeing it once — it reared its beautiful, warm head and now it is gone. We wait solemnly for its return.

I have slowly and subconsciously made sure that images of owls surround me at all times. Whenever I need to set an image icon or site key, it is an owl. My favorite necklace is a small, delicate owl. The only painting of mine I like enough to display is an abstract owl hanging in my room. The list goes on and on.

Last week, as I was walking past the dumpling cart, I overheard a man ask a brilliant question: "Why isn’t there a burrito cart?"

My father’s good friend always says, “Nothing good ever happens past midnight.” I beg to differ. Anyone who has ever had a balcony facing the street knows that people watching begins at midnight. And it’s not just good, it’s great (to be read like Tony the Tiger).

Coming back to the University was a serious culture shock for me. I was unprepared for the monster we call SIS. And I was certainly unprepared to see girls jump and scream out of excitement about having the same nail polish color.

For those of you who are not aware, there was a Teeny Animal Farm in the amphitheatre last week. No, that is not the name of the band you’ve never heard of. It was, quite literally, a little zoo full of little animals.

During Spring Break, some students headed south, some east and some west. I went back home to New York. Once there, I traveled south. Then I continued to travel south, as I sunk deeper and deeper into my couch.
