Virginia battled against No. 23 Florida State and Miami this past weekend on the road but was ultimately toppled as the Cavaliers (9-8, 1-3 ACC) couldn’t finish with a win. Junior outside hitter Sarah Billiard contributed a combined 32 kills in the matches, and sophomore middle blocker Milla Ciprian hit a career-best .583 (7-0-12) against Miami (7-4, 3-1 ACC).

Virginia just couldn’t keep up as No. 4 Pittsburgh recorded a sweep Wednesday night at Memorial Gymnasium to open ACC play. The Panthers (12-1, 1-0 ACC) took three straight sets, winning 25-11, 25-17 and 25-21.

Virginia volleyball hosted the Jefferson Cup over the weekend and won the tournament after winning all three games. The Cavaliers (8-5, 0-0 ACC) defeated Lehigh Friday and followed that with wins over Elon and UNC Greensboro Saturday.

The Virginia volleyball team participated in the Bobcat Invitational at the Convocation Center in Athens, Ohio, over the weekend and finished the tournament with a record of 2-1. The Cavaliers (5-5, 0-0 ACC) beat Connecticut and College of Charleston Friday, but fell to Ohio Saturday.

The Virginia volleyball team will be looking to improve upon the progress it made last season as the team heads into the 2019 campaign this week. The Cavaliers finished with an overall record of 8-20 and an ACC record of 4-14 last year in Coach Aaron Smith’s second season at the helm.

The Virginia women’s lacrosse team wrapped up their regular season with a 13-10 victory over in-state rival No. 22 Virginia Tech Saturday afternoon. The Cavaliers finished the season with a record of 12-5, going 3-4 in ACC play. Virginia is currently the No. 7 team in the country and is preparing for the ACC Tournament and likely the NCAA Tournament.
