Baseball begins six-game homestand

A springtime return to Charlottesville comes at the right time for the Cavaliers (20-14, 7-8 ACC), who have lost five of their last six road contests and consequently fallen outside of the NCAA’s top-25 rankings.


Lost in disappointment, the pitching performance Adam Haseley lent Virginia team an exceptional pitching performance in Saturday's loss, surrendering two runs over eight innings of five-hit work.

Baseball blows leads, loses series to Boston College

Absent from the top-25 rankings for the first time in 2016, the Virginia baseball team headed north to Chestnut Hills, Mass. for a three-game weekend series at Boston College. Behind the arm of junior ace Connor Jones, the Cavaliers (20-14, 7-8 ACC) blanked the Eagles (16-11, 5-8 ACC) on a windy opener Friday, 3-0.


Despite starting the night off 0-3, sophomore center fielder Adam Haseley was responsible for starting the Cavalier rally in the seventh. Haseley hit a two-out, two-run homer to to bring the score to 7-3.

​Baseball drops midweek contest to VCU, 7-5

Virginia Commonwealth University (19-10, 5-1 A-10) defeated No. 22 Virginia baseball, 7-5, Tuesday night in downtown Richmond. Freshman lefty Daniel Lynch, a 2015 graduate of Douglas Freeman High School in neighboring Henrico County, started on the mound for the Cavaliers (18-12, 6-6 ACC).


Daniel Pinero and Virginia lost the first and third games of the series against NC State.

​Baseball drops series to NC State

Wearing its orange uniforms and camo caps, No. 14 Virginia baseball hosted No. 23 North Carolina State Sunday in the rubber match of a weekend series at Davenport Field. Six gutsy innings from junior pitcher Ryan Williamson and two-out hitting lifted the Wolfpack (19-9, 5-5 ACC) past the Cavaliers (18-11, 6-6 ACC), 5-2.


Junior closer Alec Bettinger allowed the go-ahead run in the 9th inning of Wednesday's game against ODU. The former Hylton High School Bulldog is 0-4 with a 5.17 ERA in 2016.

Baseball blows lead late against Old Dominion

In baseball terms, the Cavaliers were cruising through Wednesday’s game at Davenport Field. Nearly two hours after freshman starter Daniel Lynch had delivered a first-pitch strike, Virginia led 3-0 in the top of the eighth inning. Then, came the grinding halt.


Sophomore first baseman Pavin Smith contributed to Virginia's comeback Tuesday afternoon, singling home the first of fifteen Cavalier runs. Smith collected a total of three hits in the game.

Baseball outslugs James Madison, 15-6

The wind was whipping towards left field on the cloudless Tuesday at Davenport Field. Virginia’s unbeaten sophomore pitcher Adam Haseley toed the rubber in his first frame, ready to sit down pesky James Madison leadoff hitter Chad Carroll.


Adam Haseley recorded two triples, three doubles and two singles while scoring four runs and driving home a man in the first two games of the series.

Baseball takes two of three from Wake Forest

The No. 18 Virginia baseball team won its second straight conference series, with two wins in three games against Wake Forest. The Cavaliers (15-6, 4-2 ACC) swept the Demon Deacons (13-9, 2-4 ACC) Friday before dropping the series finale Saturday.


Cavalier junior ace Connor Jones tossed eight scoreless frames as Virginia defeated the Blue Devils, 6-0, Friday.

​Baseball takes two of three in Durham

Playing in the Durham Bulls Athletic Park over the weekend, No. 10 Virginia won two out of three in an ACC series against Duke. Cavalier junior ace Connor Jones tossed eight scoreless frames and picked up his third victory as Virginia defeated the Blue Devils, 6-0, Friday.


Sophomore infielder Justin Novak struggled to produce in limited plate appearances last season. Tuesday afternoon, Novak started at second base and, with two hits, two runs and three RBIs, helped lead the Cavaliers to a 16-8 victory over William and Mary.

​Cavaliers double up William and Mary, 16-8

In a battle of Jeffersonian origins, the No. 19 Virginia baseball team hosted William and Mary on a beautiful first day of March. Fresh off two losses in three games against East Carolina, their only home weekend series defeat to a non-conference club over coach Brian O’Connor’s tenure, the Cavaliers scratched across nine runs inthe first inning Tuesday.


Junior reliever Alec Bettinger blew a save and took the loss in Virginia's 5-4 loss to East Carolina on Friday. He made another appearance on Sunday and shut down the Pirates in a 4-2 victory.

Cavaliers salvage final game of series

The sun having already set behind the mountains that backdrop Davenport Field, Virginia baseball (4-3) entered the ninth inning with a 5-4 lead in Friday’s opener of a three-game series against East Carolina (6-1).
