Residence Life selects student leaders for next academic year

Housing and Residence Life chose two new candidates, Gaia Read and Katie Somers, on Wednesday night for the position of Co-Chairs for next school year. The Co-Chair position is the highest position in Housing and Residence Life available to University students. Fourth year College student Taylor Locks and fourth year Engineering student Andrew Foltermann currently hold the position.

Wittenborg reappointed University librarian

University Librarian Karin Wittenborg was reappointed to another five-year term last Monday. Wittenborg, who leads the team responsible for 11 on-Grounds libraries and a high-density shelving library off-Grounds, has led the library system since 1993.

Dumler bill moves passes House unanimously

A bill allowing public officials to be removed from office after being convicted of a sex crime passed unanimously in the Virginia House of Delegates earlier this week. Del. Rob Bell, R-Albemarle, introduced the bill in response to the Christopher Dumler case last year.

The University’s Orientation and Transition programs are vital to supporting first year and transfer students throughout their entire transition to college. But much of their work goes into planning summer orientation sessions. Funlola Fagbohun, associate director of the first year experience, describes her experience working with OTP and how she strives to create a welcoming environment for first-years during orientation and beyond. Along with her role as associate director, summer Orientation leaders and OTP staff work continually to provide a safe and memorable experience for incoming students.
