Attendees of the 2010 annual Foxfield Races will see some operational changes to the races intended to streamline and improve the safety of the day's events, Foxfield marketing director Anne Susen said. The races, which are scheduled for April 24, will begin at 9 a.m.

The University and U.S. Census Bureau have made efforts throughout the past week to encourage students to complete the decennial questionnaire. Census workers, for example, have handed out forms on the Corner and have been stationed in Newcomb Hall to provide information about the survey, which was sent out in mid-March. Augusta County law enforcement officials announced in a press conference yesterday that they have apprehended Ralph Leon Jackson, a man suspected of shooting two people at Rock Point Overlook at about 7:30 Monday evening at mile marker 10 of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Fourth-year College student Joe Arwood passed away Sunday morning at the University Medical Center. The cause of death is not yet known. The Virginia state legislature has decided to increase capital fees for out-of-state students who attend Virginia colleges and universities. Out-of-state students, who comprise about one-third of the University community, currently pay a fee that funds capital-related projects at their schools.

The Diversity Action Board hosted an annual forum Wednesday night to discuss challenges related to diversity faced by the Honor Committee. The panel discussion, titled "Is Honor for Everyone?," featured Assistant Dean of Students Nicole Eramo, fourth-year College student and men's varsity basketball player Jerome Meyinsse and Graduate Arts & Sciences student Tim Lovelace. Eramo reflected on improvements the committee has made through the years, such as ensuring proper representation in random jury selections, providing diversity sensitivity training and improving minority recruitment and outreach. Downtown traffic will be temporarily affected by the Charlottesville Ten-Miler this Saturday. Both mall crossings and both sides of Seventh Street will be closed from 8 to 10 a.m., said Donovan Branche, assistant traffic engineer of neighborhood development services for the City of Charlottesville. In addition to these closures, Branche said, the Charlottesville Police Department will limit traffic to a single lane in other streets designated for the Ten-Miler.
