Virginia squares off with NC State, Duke

Excited about the Duke-U.Va. matchup but tired of basketball?Look no further than Memorial Gym Saturday night at 7, when the Cavaliers welcome the Blue Devils in the second of two conference wrestling matches for Virginia.

Duke basketball almost is synonymous to victory. Despite a surprising loss to Indiana in the NCAA tournament last year, Duke was one of the premier squads in the country.

Virginia prepares to face ACC rival Duke

The Virginia men's soccer team welcomes ACC rival Duke on Sunday in Klöckner Stadium at 1 p.m. This will be the second game of the Cavaliers' current seven-game home stand. Virginia is coming off a solid 5-2 victory against Liberty University on Wednesday night.

Cavs hope to end stormy streak in Sunshine State

Hard times have fallen on the Virginia women's volleyball team -- Wednesday's loss to ACC rival Maryland pushed the Cavaliers' losing streak to five, and there is little relief in sight as Virginia travels to Tallahassee to face Florida State and Florida A&M this weekend. Virginia Coach Melissa Aldrich Shelton, in her eighth season coaching the Cavaliers (6-14, 0-5 ACC), says preparation is the key for victory against the two formidable opponents.

Led by All-American candidate Travis Watson, the Virginia men's basketball team is ranked 19th in the preseason forecast from Slam Magazine. The 2002-03 roster contains seven lettermen: senior center Travis Watson, sophomore forward Elton Brown, sophomore guard Jermaine Harper, sophomore guard Keith Jenifer, redshirt junior Majestic Mapp and senior center/forward Jason Rogers. Transfer guard Todd Billet (Rutgers) and transfer center Nick Vander Laan (California-Berkeley) are also eligible after sitting out the 2001-02 season. Sophomore guard/forward Devin Smith from Coffeyville Community College and freshman Derrick Byars also will join the team. The Cavaliers finished 17-12 last season, highlighted by a victory over rival Duke at home.
