The Milk Carton Kids put on hugely intimate affair

Grammy nominated folk duo, The Milk Carton Kids, played at the Jefferson Theatre last week, complete with fairy lights roped around the stage, heavy interaction with the audience and a single spotlight on two eccentric, flat-picking music extraordinaires — Kenneth Pattengale and Joey Ryan.

Local talent shines at Student Film Festival

This past weekend, the 20th Annual Virginia Student Film Festival took place in Newcomb Theater. Audiences may have been initially apprehensive about the quality of these short films, but the calibre of the filmmakers, in particular with some of the narrative and documentary features, was impressive.

Selena Gomez’s ‘Revival’ fails

For the most part, “Revival” is catchy and formulaic, but also lackluster and a little too forgettable. Perhaps this is due to the album’s electronic and synth-driven production, which creates a curious amalgamation reminiscent of past top twenties hits.
