Virginia took on No. 14 James Madison for an out-of-conference doubleheader, and came away with both a loss and a win.

In the first game of the night, James Madison (31-6, 4-2 Colonial) picked up a 9-1 win over the Cavaliers (13-25, 3-12 ACC). The Dukes got off to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. James Madison collected 13 hits during the game, and scored in five of the six innings played. Junior first-baseman Morgan Tolle and senior outfielder Taylor Newton led the way for the Dukes on offense, as each player finished the game with three RBIs.

Meanwhile, Virginia only picked up two hits, with its lone run coming in the fourth inning. The score for the Cavaliers came from a solo home run from junior pitcher and outfielder Allison Davis. Junior pitcher Megan Good pitched all six innings for the Dukes and tallied up six strikeouts.

The Cavaliers quickly rebounded from the loss to pick up a 5-4 win in the second game of the doubleheader. Virginia had a 4-1 lead going into the seventh, before James Madison almost pulled off the comeback with three runs in the last inning. However, the Cavaliers were able to hold on to earn the doubleheader split.

Senior catcher Katie Park had a big game, hitting two-for-three, picking up three RBIs and getting her sixth home run of the season. Sophomore pitcher Erika Osherow had three strikeouts from the mound and only allowed the Dukes to get on the scoreboard once in the fourth inning and three times in the seventh. This was only the sixth loss all season for James Madison.

Virginia will be back on the road for another doubleheader against George Mason tomorrow night.
