CD elects Clark new editor-in-chief

Cavalier Daily staff members entered Jefferson Hall at 9 a.m. Saturday to choose the newspaper's 112th staff and emerged from the stuffy room 16 hours later, having elected third-year College student John A. Clark editor-in-chief for the 2001-2002 term.

Clark, an economics major from Alexandria, will be serving his second term on the Managing Board of The Cavalier Daily. He previously served as chief financial officer.

Clark and the other four Managing Board members outlined numerous goals for their term, including expanding the diversity of news coverage, making the paper more aesthetically pleasing and improving recruiting efforts.

"We'll be reviewing the way this paper looks and feels and how its content reads," Clark said. "Our goal is to increase readership of The Cavalier Daily and in turn encourage informed participation in the issues that affect the University."

Staff members also elected third-year College student Jennifer Schaum as the paper's next executive editor. Schaum is an English major, also from Alexandria.

Sam Le, a third-year College student from Annandale, will serve as the paper's next managing editor. Le is an economics major.

Third-year Engineering student Jonathan Erdman, a computer science major from Livingston, N.J., will fill the chief financial officer post.

Second-year College student Adam Blumenkrantz will be the paper's next operations manager. Blumenkrantz is an economics and government major from Valley Cottage, N.Y.

Staff members also chose third-year College students Rachel Alberico, Katie Dalton and Erin Perucci as the next assistant managing editors. Alberico is an English major from Harrisonburg, Dalton is an English major from Orlando, Fla. and Perucci is a psychology major from Annandale.

Third-year Engineering student Eric Hutchins will remain in the position of director of information technology, a spot he has filled for the last year. Hutchins is a computer science major from Groton, Conn.

Second-year Engineering student Sean Healey will be the paper's next online manager. Healey is a mechanical engineering major from Fredericksburg.

Staff members also elected new Junior Board editors.

Second-year College students Christine Buurma and Michael Loatman will be the next Nation/World editors, while second-year College students Abby Curran and Emily Roper will serve as News editors.

Third-year College student Maria Tor will serve as the next Focus editor, and second-year College student Diya Gullapalli will be the Business editor.

Staff members chose second-year College students Megan Milks and Suzannah Evans as Arts and Entertainment editors and third-year College student Rakesh Gopalan as Health and Science editor.

Third-year College student Christa Dierksheide and second-year College student Josie Roberts will be the next Life editors. Staff members chose third-year College students Lindsay Means and Chris Yeung as the next Sports editors.

Second-year College students Brandon Almond and Stephanie Batten will serve as Opinion editors. Second-year College student Brady Wolfe will be Photography editor. The staff chose second-year College students David Bloomberg and Adam Justice as the next Production editors. Second-year Engineering student Aaron Gussman will be Online editor.

Third-year College student Shelly Hartsook will serve as advertising manager. Third-year College students Kevin Bostic and Dave Werner will fill the positions of Graphics editors.

The staff also has chosen associate editors for the upcoming term.

Second-year College student John McArdle will serve in a new position as News senior associate editor. Second-year College students Kadie Bye, Ann-Woods Isaacs, Sara Jeanblanc, Shelley Johnson and Sarah Salwen will be News associate editors, along with first-year College students Justin Bernick, Brad Harrison, Oliver Longwell, Deirdre Erin Murphy and Mary Catherine Wellons.

First-year College student Alex Rothenberg will be the Business associate editor. Second-year College students John Bylander and Christie Harner will be the Arts and Entertainment associate editors. Third-year College student Lisa Manning and second-year College student Lisa Man will be Health and Science associate editors.

Third-year College student Julie Hofler, second-year College student Sam Bresnahan and first-year College students Catherine Dunn, Julia Salasky and Daniel Stern will be the Life associate editors.

Second-year College student Chip Knighton will be the first Sports weekly projects editor. Second-year College students Kate Lipper, Ginny Min and Katie Montgomery, as well as first-year College students Kate Bedingfield, Paul Crane and Jessica Garrison will be the Sports associate editors.

Second-year College students Jeffrey Eisenberg and Laura Sahramaa and first-year Engineering student Brian Cook will be the Opinion associate editors.

First-year College student Peter Jackson will be the Photography senior associate editor. Fourth-year College student Mom So, third-year College student Christina Hu, second-year College student Karla Campbell and first-year College students Amanda Askins and Shelby Doyle will be the Photography associate editors.

Second-year College students Lauren Passero, Sara Rains and Deanna Watts, and first-year College students Lauren Fischer and Hayden Lee will be the Production associate editors.

Fourth-year Commerce student Sylvia Yam, third-year Commerce student Matt Oliver, third-year College student Erin Lyddane and second-year College student Clay Yount will fill the Graphics associate editor positions.
