Oliver named to Virginia athletics deparment

Jon Oliver, currently the Washington State University associate athletics director, was named the University's senior associate athletics director yesterday, and he will take over the position by Dec. 1.

In appointing Oliver, Virginia Director of Athletics Craig Littlepage filled a vacancy that had been open since August.

"Jon Oliver is a talented and creative administrator, and has done a wonderful job in all facets of his work at Washington State University," Littlepage said in a press release.

Oliver has been at Washington State since 1995 and currently is the associate athletic director for external affairs there. He has served multiple roles at Washington State, including director of compliance, assistant athletics director for business and compliance and associate athletics director for finance and facilities development, after starting as a compliance intern.

Oliver said in a press release that he is excited to come to Virginia for a number of reasons. He said that he holds great respect not just for Littlepage's goals for Virginia athletics in coming years, but also for the overall quality of the athletics department staff at Virginia.

"I am very passionate when it comes to the student-athlete experience and college athletics, and I look forward to helping the Virginia athletic department reach its goals for the future," Oliver said.

Although he has been at Washington State since 1995, Oliver said he is looking forward to working at Virginia and bringing his family here as well. He also expressed gratitude for the growth he experienced during his time at Washington State.

"It is difficult for me to describe the excitement I feel about joining the staff at the University of Virginia," Oliver said. "Virginia is one of the most prestigious universities in the nation and one of the premier schools in the Atlantic Coast Conference. This is a fantastic opportunity for my family and me."

"At the same time, I leave Washington State University with sadness, tremendous appreciation and respect. My experience at Washington State allowed me to grow as a person and I can never show proper appreciation for the opportunity to be a part of a tremendous period of growth in the athletic department."

Oliver graduated from Boise State and holds a law degree from the University of Idaho. At Boise State, he was a student-athlete himself, serving as co-captain of the basketball team.

Oliver and his wife, November, have an 18-month old son, Dante.

Neither Littlepage nor Oliver could be reached for an interview.
