Men's ice hockey defeats Georgetown

The Virginia club ice hockey team defeated Georgetown Saturday night 7-5 in a pitched battle in Maryland. The Cavaliers jumped out to a 5-0 lead and cruised to a 7-5 victory against Georgetown, three-time champion of the Mason-Dixon Collegiate Hockey Association.

Seven different Cavaliers scored for Virginia as the team got production from each of its four lines. Ian McGuire and Matt Pizzuto both had two assists for the only multi point games.

Alex Pringle played well in net despite a broken thumb, which bothered him later in the game. Virginia improved to 8-7 on the season and has won five consecutive games.

Women's gymnastics takes fourth place at Hokie Classic

The gymnastics club team traveled to Virginia Tech last weekend to compete against 11 other collegiate club teams in the Hokie Classic.

The women's team consisted of fourth years Stephanie Stevens and Jakara Hubbard, third years Sarah Cary, Jenny Winger and Christine Diffell, second year Shelly Vogan and first years Katie Larsen and Christine Pearce. Jon Cristiani represented the men.

The top four scores on each event were totaled to determine the team finish, and Virginia come in with a solid fourth place finish ahead of the host Hokies. Winger and Diffell placed an impressive third and sixth in the all-around finals, respectively, while Pearce and Vogan also placed in the top six in individual events.

Despite the difficulty of financing practices at a private gym on Route 29, such recent success has motivated the team to qualify for NAIGC Nationals in Texas later this year.
