Graham departs basketball program for personal reasons

Coach Debbie Ryan announced Friday that Virginia women's basketball player Cherrise Graham has decided to leave the program and will not be a member of the 2003-4 squad. Graham cited personal reasons for her departure and will remain at the University to pursue her degree.

The junior guard transferred to Virginia after spending her freshman season at Purdue. Last year, Graham led the team in scoring with an average of 14.8 points per game despite starting only 10 of 29 games played. She also averaged four rebounds and two assists per game. Graham was named second-team All-ACC.

"She's a great girl," senior captain Anna Crosswhite said of Graham. "We will miss her and wish the best for her."

Coach Ryan could not be reached for comment.
