Andrew Alston acquitted of assault charges

Suspended third-year College student Andrew Alston was acquitted of assault charges last Friday. The charges were brought against Alston following an argument Sept. 7 with his girlfriend of one and a half years.

Alston and his girlfriend had been arguing during a party at his apartment, according to an account of the testimony from The Daily Progress. They both had been drinking and eventually walked back to his bedroom, where the assault allegedly occurred. Alston denied in court ever hitting his girlfriend.

Alston still faces second-degree murder charges related to the Nov. 8 stabbing death of Walker Sisk, a 22-year-old Charlottesville firefighter with the Seminole Trail Department.

According to an official with the Montgomery County Youth Center, Alston previously had pled guilty to aggravated assault and criminal conspiracy in November 1998, as reported by The Daily Progress. Alston spent six months in a juvenile rehabilitation program in Montgomery County following his conviction. This information was not used in court on Friday.

Alston currently is being held in the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional jail without bond.
