Virginia takes eighth place in Mat Town USA tourney

The Virginia wrestling team placed eighth out of 11 teams in the 2003 Mat Town USA Tournament over Thanksgiving weekend. Four Cavalier wrestlers finished in the top eight spots of their respective weight classes at tournament in Lock Haven, Pa.

Virginia's Scott Moore took first place in the 141-pound class by winning all four of his bouts, improving his season record to 14-0. Moore won one bout at the tournament by fall to give him 10 for the season and move him within one of the Virginia school record for falls in a season.

Cavalier Tim Foley placed second in the 165-pound class, winning three consecutive bouts before having to pull out of the tournament for medical reasons. Foley won two of his three bouts by fall. Junior Paul Bjorlo earned sixth place in the 157-pound class, recording three straight wins in the wrestle-back bracket after dropping his first match. Senior Ryan Stewart won two matches to place eighth in the 125-pound class.

Cornell, Penn State and Pittsburgh finished in the top three spots in the tournament. The Cavaliers will return to action for the Beast of the East Invitational Dec. 19 in Newark, Delaware.
