The start of a new school year means many things to many people. It's all about new classes, old friends, hopes for the football season, even anticipation of the upcoming presidential election. For a select few, however, returning to Charlottesville has an even deeper importance.

We're here for the food.

No, we haven't spent summer fantasizing about a revamped O-Hill or that most excellent dining hall contraption, the ice milk machine. Rather, we've rolled into town anticipating the wealth of dining options that belie this college-town exterior. In this hamlet of 45,000 people, there are over 200 restaurants. Burger joints, Virgnia soul, high-end French food, Italian trattorias, international spice -- from grits to gourmet, this town's got it.

Here's where your humble restaurant reviewers come in. Such abundance can be overwhelming, especially when you're lacking cash or a car. Luckily, you have two seasoned veterans of off-Grounds gluttony to point you towards some of the best tastes in town and away from the biggest duds.

The University’s Orientation and Transition programs are vital to supporting first year and transfer students throughout their entire transition to college. But much of their work goes into planning summer orientation sessions. Funlola Fagbohun, associate director of the first year experience, describes her experience working with OTP and how she strives to create a welcoming environment for first-years during orientation and beyond. Along with her role as associate director, summer Orientation leaders and OTP staff work continually to provide a safe and memorable experience for incoming students.
