Boland, O'Conner receive contract extensions

Two Virginia coaches received contract extensions Monday, Athletic Director Craig Littlepage announced. Men's tennis coach Brian Boland agreed to a three-year extension that runs through August 2008. Baseball coach Brian O'Connor received a two-year extension until July 2009.

Boland joined the Virginia athletics department in 2001. In the past two years, he has amassed a record of 51-7. His career record at Virginia is 83-27 in four years. Boland also has led the team to its first ACC Championships, coming in 2004 and 2005. He was named ACC Coach of the Year in 2005 after the Cavaliers put together a 27-3 record, setting a new school record for victories in a season.

O'Connor has put together a similarly impressive resume. After coming to Virginia in 2003, O'Connor has put together an 85-35 record. His 2004 team went 44-15 and tied the school record for wins in a season. For this performance, he earned ACC Coach of the Year honors. In 2005, the Cavaliers went 41-20, making it the first time in school history the baseball team had compiled consecutive 40-win seasons.
