Radiohead vs. EMI

It's safe to say tensions between Radiohead and their former label EMI are pretty high right now. Soon after the band snubbed EMI by self-releasing In Rainbows, the label announced it would re-release Radiohead's entire back catalog in a deluxe box set. Interestingly, it has the exact same price tag and release date as Radiohead's deluxe In Rainbows disc box. Last week, EMI's actions took an even more outrageous turn -- the label placed a misleading Google advertisement for an album called Rainbowthat re-directed to a site selling EMI's box set. EMI has since retracted the advertisement, calling it a "data source glitch" (which might be something like a wardrobe malfunction).

Melt Banana

In one of its few U.S. tours, Tokyo-based noise rock band Melt Banana hits up Satellite Ballroom as a part of Bambi's Revenge USA Tour 2007. Though sometimes compared to fellow Japanese rockers Boredoms, Melt Banana puts a unique twist on the punk rock genre by combining the vocals of lead singer Yasuko O. and the piercing rifts of guitarist Agata to project an image of modern Japanese pop culture. With powerful lyrics and intensely frenzied music, Melt Banana utilizes its experience of Japanese culture to appeal to a widespread audience. This Japanese trio is known to win over fans through its live shows, as performances are on par for intense, energetic moshing and heavy sweating. Take advantage of this opportunity to see them live, as a visit from Melt Banana (especially in Charlottesville), is a rare treat.
