John Ogden’s aboriginal photography

Australian John Ogden has had an eclectic career — the man has tried his hand at television commercials, music videos, international documentaries and fine art photography. One of his latest pieces is a collection of photographs documenting the lives of Australian aborigines titled “Portraits from a Land Without People.” This portfolio currently is on display at the Kluge-Ruhe Aboriginal Art collection. His portrait of a biracial country will coincide with the current Australienation exhibit. The exhibit is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Tuesday to Saturday, and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays.

Franz Ferdinand reveal album release info

It looks as though the interminable wait for the follow-up to Franz Ferdinand’s excellent You Could Have It So Much Better — released way back in October 2005 — is finally coming to a close. The next Franz album, titled Tonight, will see a U.S. release Jan. 27. Frontman Alex Kapronos has stated that the album will be more dance-oriented than the rock that characterized Ferdinand’s first two albums. “Lucid Dreams,” which was featured on Madden NFL 2009 and apparently written from the perspective of a globe-trotting European, is the only song released from the album so far.

Jason Mraz heads to Pavilion

Central Virginia native — from Mechanicsville, of all places — Jason Mraz returns to the Charlottesville Pavilion Sunday night. Seeing success after his first single, “The Remedy,” hit airwaves, Mraz has played venues across international borders and worked with artists such as Alanis Morissette, the Rolling Stones, James Blunt and Charlottesville native Dave Matthews. Coming into his own as a leader of the pop-folk musical niche, Mraz heads back to his home state (he currently lives in Cali, where else?) after his latest single has climbed the Billboard charts. Tickets are still on sale for $37, with the show starting at 7 pm.
