As fourth-year students, nostalgia comes easy for Campbell and I - give us a minute and we can drone on about the triumphs and turmoils of our past four years at U.Va. And as for The Cavalier Daily, I can personally wax poetic for much longer than I care to admit. From a first-year associate editor to two full years as co-editor, it is finally time for me to hand the reins of tableau to someone else - both a terrifying and liberating occasion. It's never easy to say goodbye, but as it is in the natural order of things, the time has come for Campbell and I. Shoot us in the butt and turn us into glue, because tableau is moving on.
So how many people does it take to put out a single weekly Cav Daily section? Surprisingly, or not, it takes a village to make this section run. As savvy as we are, Campbell and I could never fathom doing this on our own. From our dedicated writers (tearing up) to our hardworking associates - Rachel and Dave, our new editors - to our gorgeous and endlessly creative production guy, Stephen (OK, tears are rolling now) - and yes, even the Managing Board, starring that constantly hovering managing editor, Tom, tableau is comprised of an army of pop culture fanatics and journalistic innovators, none of which Campbell and I could ever do without.
What will happen to the future of tableau? A better question might be: What will happen to the future of print journalism? But it's a question that has been asked far too many times, and we'll leave it up to the future to answer. For tableau, I can say I am confident that the youthful enthusiasm (damn these wrinkles!) of Who's In/Who's Out Dave and Reading Rachel is incomparable. These kids will take the section far - and I have a leg to stand on, as I've been running the show for far too long now. Looking back through the years, from the regime of David Moltz and Molly Seltzer, to Jeanette and Case, to my own days with Ethan and now with Campbell - tableau has grown each and every year. And as a certified Cav Daily alum, I can say I can't wait to see where it goes next.\n-love, Stephanie & Campbell
