Police search for missing VCU student

Virginia Commonwealth University and Richmond police officials are searching for VCU student Jonathan Dorey, who was last seen March 2.

The 22-year-old exchange student from Guernsey, England last was seen near his dormitory in Richmond with his bicycle late in the morning that day and was reported missing March 4 by other students.

A $5,000 reward has been offered for information about Dorey's whereabouts. So far police officials have searched the locations where he often was seen riding his bike. In addition, they have looked into his computer, e-mail and cell phone records for further information.

"There is no evidence of foul play," VCU spokesperson Mike Porter said.

Students and community members also have assisted the search efforts, he said. Dorey's parents and brother have been in Richmond since March 7 and are working with police forces.

Dorey is about 6 feet tall and weighs between 180 and 200 pounds. He last was seen wearing a white-and-blue plaid jacket, dark jeans, black shoes and a navy blue backpack. His bicycle is black and its black seat has a red stripe down the center, Porter said.

Anyone with information about Jonathan Dorey is encouraged to call VCU Detective Sgt. Patience Abrams at (804) 640-3380 or VCU Police Communications at (804) 828-1196.
