Police investigate shooting incident

A Charlottesville resident was wounded in a shooting that took place yesterday at about 2:30 a.m. on 13th Street.\nThe wounded individual fled the scene on foot and sought treatment at the University Medical Center. No students were reported to be involved.\nCharlottesville police responded to the incident, which they believe involved "two separate groups that may have been known to each other," as stated by University Police Chief Michael Gibson in a University-wide e-mail.\nUniversity and Charlottesville police officials will increase officer presence in the heavily student-populated area and encourage anyone with information about the incident to contact Crimestoppers at 434-977-400 or Charlottesville Police at 434-970-3280.\n-compiled by Bethel Habte
