The Charlottesville Police Department is currently investigating an incident involving a University student who was shot in the leg with a BB gun.
Lt. Gary Pleasants said a 20-year-old female student was walking near the 1700 block of University Avenue at 9:10 p.m. Wednesday when she heard a "pop" that resembled the sound of a BB gun and felt an object quickly graze her leg.
The student, who was uninjured, told police officers that the passing vehicle she noticed was a green four-door sedan but added that she could not be sure that the BB was fired from the vehicle.
Authorities, who sent out a University-wide safety release yesterday morning, followed the release with reminders for students to be aware and take note of their surroundings. They also advise that students take quick note of the details of a vehicle if presented with a similar situation, such as the color, size and damage or distinguishing marks.
