A Charlottesville resident reported an armed robbery and car theft at around 3 a.m. Saturday morning.

After stopping at his vehicle to pick up an electronic device, the male victim turned around to find a handgun pointed at his face. He then was commanded, "Give me what you got," by the perpetrator, who was described as a black male about 6 feet tall.

The victim surrendered the keys to his car, a black Volkswagen Jetta; the culprit then fled the scene in the vehicle.

The victim was not injured and is not a University student.

Later that morning, at about 7:30 a.m., a motorist reported an abandoned car on Carters Mountain Trail that was turned on its side. The vehicle was identified to be the black Jetta that had been stolen a few hours earlier.

Police officials ask that anyone with information about the incident call Crimestoppers at 434-977-4000.
