Tackling the tyrants of literature

There are a lot of things I'm not necessarily fond of. These include, but certainly are not limited to: sugar-free gum, yippy dogs, recycling and, at the top of my list, Mr. Shakespeare himself. As a candy-addicted, golden-retriever-owning daughter of a Republican, most of this list makes sense. As an English major married to the dictionary, though, my last admittance borders on blasphemy. I've learned recently that not only does Shakespeare make me queasy, but so does basically any piece of work written before the 20th century. This is pretty inconvenient when you have to actually take classes for requirements, not just as electives. I don't really like adding things to my "what should not be around Mary Scott" list, and I was pretty terrified to discover that
