The Idaho National Laboratory is working on a robot which can detect radiation.

Harvard University initiated a study in which it used an electric field to extinguish an open flame more than one foot tall. This represents a possible alternative to current fire-fighting techniques.\nRadiation emitted from Japan's nuclear power complex has made its way to the East Coast, though the radiation is harmless as of now.
