Fraternity council elects interim president

The Inter-Fraternity Governing Board elected Dane Ferre as interim president this summer after Neil Holby was forced to resign when his fraternity, Zeta Psi, was closed down by University administrators in July as a result of the hospitalization of a pledge.

"The [Inter-Fraternity Council's] governing documents outline the process to fill the role of president when the position becomes vacant in the middle of a term," said Michael Citro, assistant dean of students and director of fraternity and sorority life. The IFC Governing Board elects an interim president, who is then confirmed by the IFC President's Council. The council is made up of all IFC chapter presidents.

Ferre, a brother at Kappa Sigma fraternity, has served on the IFC Governing Board since February 2010, serving as the Chair for Sustainability and Vice President for Administration.

"Greek life at Virginia is very important to me, and provides roughly 1,500 men at this school with incredible opportunities for friendship, scholarship, and philanthropy," Ferre said in an email. "It is my goal to promote the many benefits of our unique system to the University community, and ensure our continued success in the future."

Citro was confident in Ferre's ability to act as interim president. "He is a trusted and knowledgeable leader who will lead the IFC with the highest level of integrity," Citro said.

The IFC will elect the next Governing Board in February 2012 to find a permanent president.
