Honor will alter mission statement

The Honor Committee will rewrite its mission statement in the coming weeks in an attempt to clarify its role in the University's community of trust, the Committee decided last night.

Chair Ann Marie McKenzie said she looked at the Committee's current statement, which she described as a "massive paragraph that didn't resonate to me as a mission statement," and saw a need for change.

"At end of the day we can sit down and say this is what we do - this is why we're doing it," she said. "We have one [already], but it's not very succinct."

McKenzie said members have a strong understanding of the Committee's adjudicative purpose, but that "something that the Committee frequently wonders is, 'How do we maintain the community of trust, and what does that trust mean not only to the Committee but also to the wider student body?'"

There is no immediate time frame for completing and posting the new mission statement online, McKenzie said.
