Around the ACC

In Saturday’s primetime clash between the ACC and SEC, No. 14 Clemson gave its conference
a much-needed boost and downed Auburn, 26-19. Senior tailback Andre Ellington rushed for 231
yards, helping the Tigers erase memories of a 70-33 blowout loss to West Virginia in the Orange
Bowl last January. The teams battled at the Georgia Dome, the same stadium where Auburn
bested Virginia, 43-24, in the 2012 Chick-fil-A Bowl … N. C. State fared worse against its own
SEC opponent, falling 35-21 to Tennessee. Wolfpack coach Tom O’Brien told reporters Monday
that cornerback C.J. Wilson would be suspended for four games due to eligibility issues … The
NCAA Friday cleared another North Carolina school of potential academic infractions. The
University of North Carolina had faced sanctions after its African-American studies department
allegedly falsified grades for athletes, including former two-sport standout and current NFL star
Julius Peppers.
