Virginia football hires Lewis

The Virginia football team filled out its coaching staff Saturday with the addition of Larry Lewis, who will serve as special teams coordinator and running backs coach. Lewis arrives from Nevada, where he held the same titles last year and coached junior All-American running back Stefphon Johnson to a school-record breaking 1,883-yard, 24-touchdown season.

Lewis brings the Cavaliers 32 years of experience coaching in the collegiate ranks. He takes over for Jeff Banks, who resigned Jan. 10, only nine days after accepting the position, to join coach Kevin Sumlin’s staff at Texas A&M.
