Blanding receives ACC Defensive Back of the Week honors

The ACC named sophomore free safety Quin Blanding its Defensive Back of the Week for games played through Oct. 31.

The Virginia Beach, Va. native led Virginia’s defense with a team-high 15 tackles — seven coming in the fourth quarter — in the Cavaliers’ 27-21 win over Georgia Tech. Additionally, Blanding broke up two passes—including a fourth-down throw by Justin Thomas on the Yellow Jackets’ final play of the game.

Blanding anchored a defense which held the normally prolific Georgia Tech running attack to 144 yards on 33 attempts, which was their second-lowest rushing output this season. Only once did the Yellow Jackets rush for more than 10 yards in a single play.

The award is the first such honor for the freshman All-American.

Lauren Seeliger and Brandon Kile, two third-year Cavalier Daily News writers, discuss the impact of the student housing frenzy on both University students and the Charlottesville community.
