University community continues to record low COVID-19 cases

Voting for all student elections — which includes candidates for Student Council, Honor Council, University Judiciary Committee and Class Council — opens Wednesday.
Overall, the Commonwealth ranks fourth in terms of percentage of total vaccines administered — 2,685,399 out of 3,190,155 as of March 12.
The decision comes after the Inter-Sorority Council banned in-person gatherings Feb. 26.
The February application is normally restricted to second-year students in the College — however, an exception to the process was made this year to allow current third-year students to apply.
The current 54 active cases bring the total number of active cases to 1,658 this semester, in comparison to 1,548 total cases last semester.
The University began the semester with a six-person gathering limit, but after a sharp increase in cases during the third week of classes, it banned all in-person gatherings for a 10-day period starting Feb. 16.
As we approach the one year mark of students’ departures on March 11, 2020, the University community is just recovering from its largest spike in COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began after over 700 cases were reported the week of Feb. 15.
Hart and Smith said that the coming year will require training 240 new staffers virtually over the summer and increasing the diversity and inclusion of the HRL program.

The event was interspersed with short clips of descendants of enslaved laborers explaining what the Memorial to Enslaved Laborers meant to them.
The school made a number of changes to the admissions process in order to be more accessible to students of marginalized identities.
No students were deferred, which Collins said was an effort to alleviate anxiety in an already challenging time.
Brazukas, who came to the University from Midlothian, Va., was a member of the National Junior Classical League in high school and enjoyed playing guitar, spending time outdoors, biking and skiing.
