Hot Marino caps ACC career, eyes pro ranks

Senior golfer Steve Marino is on a hot streak. He finished first individually at the Wofford Invitational on April 12 and 13 with a nine under par performance, leading the Cavaliers to a top place finish in the Invitational.

Wilcox declares for NBA draft

Maryland sophomore Chris Wilcox announced yesterday he will enter the NBA draft, leaving the Terps just after helping them to a national title last month. Wilcox was Maryland's third-leading scorer, averaging 12 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.5 blacks last season.

Individual Cavaliers reach goals

A number of provisional and automatic NCAA qualifiers, personal records and all-ACC titles were attained by the Virginia men's and women's track teams culminating in a sixth place finish for both teams at the ACC Track and Field Meet, which the Cavaliers hosted this past weekend at Lanigan Field. In the ACC, which is one of the most competitive conferences with many nationally ranked athletes, Virginia coach Randy Bungard said this sixth place finish out of ninewas one to be quite proud of. "Sixth place looks bad, but when you look at the performances we had, it really isn't," Bungard said.

Three Cavaliers selected in NFL Draft The Jacksonville Jaguars selected Virginia tight end Chris Luzar in the fourth round of the NFL draft with the 118th pick overall.

As spring football practice ended Saturday with the annual intra-squad spring game, Virginia cornerback Art Thomas let the fans know that he is quickly developing into a defensive playmaker.

ACC Commissioner John D. Swofford announced Tuesday that six baseball players from Georgia Tech and Maryland will serve suspensions for actions during the game between the two teams in College Park, Md., Sunday. The game, the last in a three-game series, was halted by the umpires in the bottom of the seventh inning after a bench-clearing altercation at home plate.

Cavaliers look to oust UNC, Clemson as ACC champs

Virginia hosts the two-day ACC track and field championships starting today, and the Cavaliers hope to make an impressive showing in front of a home crowd at Lannigan Field. Clemson has been dominant in the ACC in recent history, especially on the men's side, and will look to once again win the ACC championship.

First varsity eight garner ACC weekly honors After coming from behind to take the grand final victory at the George Washington Invitational Crew Classic, the Virginia women's rowing team's first varsity eight boat was named ACC Crew of the Week. The boat was comprised of coxswain Betty Shumaker, rowers Hayley Nunn, Madeline Engel, Molly Baker, Lauren Mitterer, Jen Reck, Meg Van Dam, Carolyn McMillian and Amanda Kennedy.

Dennis leads team from mound and plate

At the age when most children are learning how to ride bikes with training wheels or to run without bringing home skinned knees, Kristen Dennis was picking up a Nerf baseball bat and slamming home runs over the hedge of her family's yard. Starting to play organized softball in San Diego recreation leagues when she was six-years-old, Dennis' early exposure to the sport appears to have served the Virginia softball phenom well.
