Arts & Sciences Graduate students see tuition increase

A recent proposal to raise graduate school tuition for doctoral candidates by nearly $4,000 for the next academic year is part of an effort to ultimately lower tuition costs, according to Associate Dean for Graduate Academic Programs Philip Zelikow. Monday Feb.

UJC elects executive committee

The University Judiciary Committee elected its new leadership Sunday evening. Third-year Engineering student David Ensey was elected incoming Chair. Ensey and outgoing Chair Emily Forrester, a fourth-year College student, said the new Committee was generally pleased with the way the Committee was currently being run but hoped to improve the efficiency of the process.

Honor Committee selects new leadership

Third-year College Student Evan Behrle was elected chair of the Honor Committee this weekend during the Committee’s annual retreat. He ran unopposed for the position and will replace fourth-year College student Stephen Nash when the new committee takes office on April 1. The Committee also elected its four vice chairs.

Led by another assertive effort by budding star freshman guard Justin Anderson, the Cavaliers (23-11, 11-7 ACC) coasted past St. Johns (17-16, 8-10 Big East) 68-50 for their 19th straight home victory, the fourth longest active streak in Division I men’s basketball.

Groups recognize World Water Day

Environmental and activist groups across Grounds used the United Nation’s World Water Day on Friday to raise awareness about local and international water issues. U.Va. Sustainability, a student-run organization supported by the University’s Office of Sustainability, set-up several tables on the west plaza of Newcomb Hall to educate students about their water consumption.

University Democrats host Attorney General candidate

The University Democrats hosted Attorney General Candidate Justin Fairfax in Monroe Hall on Wednesday evening. Fairfax outlined both his background in the judicial system, as well as his plans pending election as Attorney General of the Commonwealth.

Turning the wrong page

Approximately 75 percent of public universities grant their librarians faculty status, according to a 2008 study by a scholar at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In 2009 Wake Forest University transitioned librarians from staff to faculty. The University, however, has chosen to move in the opposite direction. In this academic climate, this decision seems out of place.
