BFC picks Herzenberg, Stephens as new Co-chairwomen

The Black Fraternal Council elected third-year College students Catherine Herzenberg, an Alpha Kappa Alpha member, and Marquita Stephens, a Zeta Phi Beta member, as its new co-chairwomen during elections held late Wednesday night.

The BFC is the governing organization for three sororities and four fraternities. There are about 65 students involved in the organizations.

Herzenberg and Stephens both formerly served on the BFC executive board. Herzenberg was the former recording secretary and Stephens was the parliamentarian.

The BFC also elected third-year College student Khalilah Dubose as its new vice chairman and third-year College student Nicole Roberts as treasurer.

Third-year College student Stephanie Hall will serve as recording secretary, while members chose third-year College student Shakeya Currie as the new corresponding secretary.

Third-year Architecture student Fred Godbolt rounds out the new officers. He will serve as parliamentarian.

Herzenberg said she has many goals for her term. Specifically, she highlighted working more closely with other fraternal organizations on Grounds as one of her primary objectives.

"My personal goals are definitely to unify the BFC" with the Inter-Fraternity and Inter-Sorority Councils, she said.

She added that she also hopes to work with other cultural organizations to further the BFC's presence on Grounds by co-sponsoring events and programs.

Dubose said she hopes to "positively represent the BFC in the Greek coordinating community" and improve relations with the IFC, ISC and the Fraternity-Sorority Council.

Former BFC Co-chairman Michael McPheeters, who was elected FSC chairman last week, said he is very pleased with the election results.

"We elected experienced people," McPheeters said, pointing to Herzenberg and Stephens' previous executive board experience. "I have the most faith that they will continue to do a good job"
