Virginia midfielder Chris Rotelli was named ACC men's lacrosse player of the week Monday after leading the Cavaliers to an 11-10 victory in their conference opener Saturday against Maryland.

Rotelli, a junior from Rumford, R.I., played a role in four of the Cavaliers' last six goals, including the final three. He tallied four points on two goals and two assists on the day and played a key defensive role in helping the Cavaliers hold the Terrapins to three goals under their season average.

Rotelli is fifth on the team in scoring with 18 points on 11 goals and seven assists.

Rowers win seven races at ACC/Big Ten regatta

The Virginia women's rowing team won seven of 11 races Saturday at the ACC/Big Ten Double Dual Regatta on Belleville Lake in Belleville, Mich.

The Cavaliers took four of six races against Ohio State and three of five races against Michigan with one race cancelled. Duke also competed in the regatta.

Virginia's winning boats against Ohio State were the second varsity eight with a time of seven minutes, 8.5 seconds to the Buckeyes' 7:13.6; the first varsity four (7:49.1-8:03.7); the first novice eight (7:35.7-7:49.5) and the second novice eight ((7:01.7-7:16.1).

  • The Cavaliers' winning boats against Michigan were the first varsity eight (7:17.3-7:18.0); the first novice eight (7:37.0-7:41.6) and the second novice eight (7:01.7-7:16.1). The Cavaliers also defeated Eastern Michigan (7:53.8) in the second novice eight race.

    The Virginia varsity eight was named ACC Crew of the Week for their performance at the regatta.
