Respecting the University

Last week Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., celebrated its hundredth year as a sorority. They decided to commemorate the event by painting Beta Bridge, but unfortunately, the bridge and the anniversary message was defaced. The first "r" in the word sorority was replaced with an "h," creating the word "Sohority."

I think that this was a tasteless action and the University community as a whole should not stand for this. Beta Bridge is a time-honored place on Grounds where students display message of solidarity, from proposing marriage to homecoming events and the like. I just cannot believe that someone could have such disrespect for the University, by disrespecting one of its student organizations in such a way.

As a member of a sorority here at the University, I am appalled and offer my condolences and support to the women of the Theta Kappa Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
