Prior to the murder, the University's new president corresponded frequently with the flamboyant New York architect regarding details for the school's most recent building campaign. In fact, the president's spouse met with White to discuss the plans for the new building on Carr's Hill just three days before his death. White's death marked the end of an era for the University, coming just a year after the inauguration of the University's first president.
