The No. 9 Virginia women’s soccer team cruised past ACC foe Miami 3-0 Thursday night, appearing to move beyond a rough patch during which the Cavaliers lost two of three games.

Virginia (11-3-1, 4-2-1 ACC) broke the scoring open early on the first of two goals senior forward Caroline Miller notched. Miller placed a ball in the upper 90 of the net in the 20th minute for her eighth goal of the season, putting the Cavaliers ahead of the Hurricanes (7-6-1, 2-4 ACC) 1-0.

The Cavaliers continued their strong offensive play, controlling most of the chances for a 7-4 shots-on-goal advantage in the first half. In the 39th minute, junior midfielder Kate Norbo took a pass from sophomore forward Danielle Colaprico and broke through the defense to put the Cavaliers up 2-0 going into the second half. The goal marked Norbo’s fourth tally of the season and Colaprico’s fourth assist.

The second half started strong for Virginia, as well. Miller struck about six minutes into the second period, receiving a cross into the box from freshman forward Makenzy Doniak and burying her chance. Miller’s goal pushed Virginia’s cushion to 3-0 and set the Cavaliers up for an easy remainder of the night. Miller now has 34 career goals, tying her for seventh in program history.

Both teams continued to search for goals for the rest of the second half, but neither was able to break through. Virginia junior goalkeeper Danielle Delisle notched three saves to earn the shutout.

Virginia now continues its trip through Florida, heading to Tallahassee to take on No. 1 Florida State Sunday. The game against the undefeated Seminoles will be broadcast on ESPN3 at 1 p.m.
