Virginia hosted the Rivanna Romp Sunday, earning first place in both the Varsity Eights and Varsity Fours races at its only home regatta, at the Rivanna Reservoir in Earlysville, Virginia.
In the eights, the Virginia A boat (13:09.8) beat out the Louisville A boat (13:47.1), with the Virginia B (13:49.7) and Virginia C (13:52.8) boats placing third and fourth. The first Columbia boat (13:58.1) rounded out the top five in the 4,000-meter race with 24 entries. The Virginia D boat placed seventh, beating out Penn, Oklahoma and Duke’s A boats.
Senior coxswain Julia Roithmayr — who previously coxed the Varsity Four A at Charles — coxed the Varsity Eight A boat, which featured the same lineup as in the first two races with the exception of junior Tessa Dikkers, who replaced sophomore Hannah Osborne.
The Cavaliers also raced eight boats in the Varsity Fours race, capturing the top three spots and five of the top 10. The first four had sophomore Colette Lucas-Conwell at coxswain, senior Chandler Lally at stroke, sophomore Georgia Ratcliff at 3, senior Lizzy Youngling at 2 and junior Mackenzi Sherman at bow, and finished in 15:02.3. The third boat finished with a time of 15:06.5, and the second boat in 15:16.7. Louisville's (15:29.8) and Clemson’s (15:37.5) A boats finished in fourth and fifth, respectively.
For the first time this season, Virginia fielded a Novice 8 boat, which finished second behind Louisville (14:24.4) with a time of 15:27.1.
The Rivanna Romp was the Cavaliers’ final race of the season. They will now move into the winter indoor training season, and will next see competition on the water in March.
