Searching for praise in a thread of online comments is a fool’s errand, and positivity is not a metric we use in determining which comments to delete. But we hold that obscenities, defamation and ad hominem attacks have no place in respectful public dialogue.

Wednesday, more than a year after fellow Big South member Liberty stunned the home crowd, Radford flipped the script on the nation’s fifth-ranked team to earn its biggest upset in school history. The Highlanders blitzed junior starter Artie Lewicki in his long-awaited return from Tommy John surgery, tallying three runs in the top of the first and built a 9-1 lead through two innings.

Men's tennis eyes conference milestone

On April 23, 2006, the Virginia men’s tennis team lost in the ACC Championship match 4-3 to Duke. The team took the doubles point and two singles matches for a 3-0 lead, but the Blue Devils fought back for the conference title. Three weeks passed and the Cavaliers downed Wake Forest in the NCAA Round of 32 and today – nearly seven years later – they have yet to lose to a conference opponent.

It’s all Greek to me

The Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life’s FAQ page addresses questions about alcohol and hazing by saying that such organizations are “expected to comply with the policies and regulations concerning alcohol that are outlined by the University,” and that the University “does not condone hazing in any form.” Show those answers to a fraternity brother, and I bet the most common reaction would be a chuckle.

Personal prank panics student body

It all started with a Snapchat. As a flurry of panicked students circulated news that student dorm rooms were being searched by Alcoholic Beverage Control officials Monday afternoon, first-year College student Meredith Markwood came to the realization that what had started as a practical joke played on her by a friend had created school-wide chaos.

Advocacy group hosts hunger banquet

To raise awareness about world hunger, the advocacy group ONE@UVA hosted a “Hunger Banquet” Thursday. Participants were divided into groups and served dinner in portions typical of either first-, second- or third-world nations.
