Men's tennis concludes U.Va. Invitational, Rizza, Miklo duo make 3rd round

Men's tennis concluded its first tournament of the season, hosting the U.Va. Invitational all weekend at Virginia's own Snyder Tennis Center.

Izark van der Merwe of Old Dominion won the Flight A title by beating Andrew Hamar of Wake Forest in the final. He won in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6.

Jack Li of Harvard won the Flight B title winning in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, against Wake Forest's Todd Paul.

Virginia's Rylan Rizza and Marko Miklo both advanced to the third round but lost their matches. Rizza, one of the seeded players in the tournament, lost to eventual winner, van der Merwe. In Flight B, Mike Downing could not advance past the second round, losing in straight sets.

William & Mary swept all titles in the doubles with Steven Kane and Geoffrey Russell winning Flight A and Jeff Kader and Alex Fish winning Flight B.

In doubles Flight A, Virginia's Chris Gonyer and Steven Noler were second round losers, a round behind Rizza and Meythaler who lost to the pair of van der Merwe and Csandi in the third round. Downing/Ahmed, Walker/Montandon and Rozek/Cohen all lost their second round matches in Flight B.
