Cavalier wrestlers survive late Drexel comeback

Facing Drexel University in Philadelphia on Saturday, the Virginia wrestling squad jumped ahead in the middle weight classes to earn a 21-6 lead.

The Cavaliers nearly squandered their lead late in the day. Virginia's Andrew Leffler avoided a pin in the heavyweight match to secure the 21-18 victory forU.Va. The event remained tied 3-3 until the 141-pound division, when Drexel decided to forfeit a match against top-ranked Scott Moore. After that win, the Cavaliers earned a lead they would not lose, even as the momentum shifted in favor of the Dragons.

Moore, Brian Sticca, Aaron Martin, Tim Foley and Michael Grogan all earned points to add to Virginia's team total, with Foley and Grogan proving especially crucial in extending the Cavalier total from 12 to the final 21 points.
