Seats in new basketball arena will be expensive for non-students

In order to reserve the best seats at the John Paul Jones Arena, the University is requiring fans donate generously to the new basketball stadium's construction.

The arena, a key piece in the $129.8 million project, is on schedule to be completed in May 2006. The current arena, 40-year-old University Hall, is the second-oldest in the ACC.

The complex is expected to include new practice facilities, parking and an access road. Plans for the arena itself include wide concourses, concession areas, better sightlines to the floor and a larger scoreboard.

The University has demanded donations for non-students who want to get close to the court. In order to receive two lower level tickets, fans must give a minimum donation of $10,000 towards the arena, another $2,200 per year for the scholarship fund, all in addition to the price of tickets, according to the Lynchburg News & Advance.
