No. 55 Virginia began the 2005 dual-match season with a 5-2 victory Saturday over Michigan State at Vanderbilt University.
After losing the doubles point, the Cavaliers stormed back to take four of the five singles matches. Freshman Diana Srebrovic defeated Michigan State's Keri Thompson 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 1 position.
Following its season-opening victory, Virginia's record fell to 1-1 with a loss Sunday afternoon to No. 6 Vanderbilt. After again losing the doubles point, Virginia managed to capture only two of the five singles points, eventually falling by a score of 5-2.
In the loss, Srebrovic once again won at the No. 1 spot, upsetting Vanderbilt's Audra Falk who is ranked No. 38 in the nation. Women's tennis hits the court again Feb. 5-6 in Charlottesville against Old Dominion and Penn.
