It is disappointing that The Cavalier Daily only considers the few, traditionally-valued student organizations in Monday's lead editorial on student self-governance ("Taking the reins," Nov. 23). Surely, our administration is fond of pointing to these student organizations as the core of self-governance at the University. Perhaps, as The Cavalier Daily suggests, we should take a step back from the administration's definition and make our own. Students should be able to feel equally valuable to self-governance at this University whatever their organizational affiliation. Just because a group doesn't have an office in Newcomb Hall, an endowment, large membership base, or frequent coverage in The Cavalier Daily does not mean they contribute less to student self-governance. As students, we should know this best. It is regrettable that The Cavalier Daily fails to follow their own advice about stepping back from the administration's way of thinking and takes a very narrow lens in analyzing our buzz-term of student self-governance.
